Glem Gas cookers, ovens and hobs sold in the UAE are mechanical appliances — knobs, a timer, and a gas safety system. There is no numbered fault code to read, so the symptom itself is the diagnosis. That is genuinely different from working on an electronic machine, and it changes what is worth checking before you call anyone.
The burner lights, then goes out the moment you let go of the knob
This is the single most common Glem Gas call we take, and it is almost always the flame supervision device — the thermocouple. Its job is to sense the flame and hold the gas valve open; when it stops sensing heat, it shuts the gas off, which is exactly what it is designed to do. A thermocouple that is dirty, out of position or failing reads no flame even when one is burning, so the valve closes as soon as you release the knob.
This is a gas safety component and not a DIY repair. The burner assembly has to come apart to reach it, and the appliance needs recommissioning afterwards to confirm there is no leak and that the device actually shuts the gas off when it should. If your cooker is doing this, use the other burners and book it in.
It clicks and clicks but never lights
The spark ignition and the flame-safety system are separate circuits, so a cooker can spark perfectly and still refuse to light. Two things are safe to check yourself: that the burner cap is seated squarely and completely dry after cleaning — a cap sitting even slightly proud will not light — and that the gas supply is actually on, whether that is a cylinder or a mains connection. Beyond that the usual causes are a cracked or damp ignition electrode, grease bridging the spark gap, or a failed spark generator.
The oven will not hold temperature, or cooks unevenly
On a gas oven this is a thermostat or a partly blocked burner rather than an electronic fault. Note that some Glem Gas cookers sold in the UAE pair gas hotplates with an electric oven cavity, so the same model number can need two completely different repairs depending on which half has failed. The model code on the rating plate tells us which it is before we arrive.
You can smell gas
Turn the appliance off at the isolation valve, open windows, do not operate electrical switches, and call us or your gas supplier immediately. Do not wait for a scheduled appointment. This is the one symptom on this page that is not a repair question.

Glem Gas repair questions
Does a Glem Gas cooker show an error code when something goes wrong?
Usually not. Glem Gas gas cookers and hobs are built around mechanical gas taps, a flame-safety thermocouple and a spark ignition system, so there is normally no digital display and no fault code to read out. Diagnosis is done by symptom instead: how the burner behaves, whether the flame holds after you release the knob, how the oven holds temperature, and what the ignition sounds like. If your cooker has an electronic timer or programmer that is showing something unusual, note exactly what appears on the display and mention it when you call, as it helps the technician arrive with the right parts.
Why does my Glem Gas burner spark and light, but go out as soon as I let go of the knob?
That pattern almost always points at the flame-safety device. The cooker uses a thermocouple sitting in the flame, and while it is hot it holds the gas valve open. If the thermocouple tip is dirty, out of position, worn out, or the flame is not actually touching it, the valve closes the moment you stop pressing. A blocked burner cap or crown can cause the same thing by pushing the flame away from the sensor. It is worth checking the burner parts are clean, dry and seated correctly, but a thermocouple or gas valve replacement is a job for a technician because it involves the gas circuit.
My Glem Gas oven burns food on one side and undercooks the other. What causes that?
Uneven cooking in a gas oven usually traces back to the oven burner, the thermostat, or the door. A partially blocked oven burner heats unevenly; a drifting thermostat means the oven runs hotter or cooler than the dial says; and a worn door seal or a dropped hinge lets heat escape from one edge. In UAE kitchens a heavy build-up of baked-on grease inside the cavity also changes how heat moves around. A technician can check the actual cavity temperature against the setting to tell which of those it is rather than guessing.
I can smell gas near my Glem Gas cooker. What should I do?
Treat it as urgent. Stop using the appliance, turn the gas supply off at the cylinder or isolation valve, open windows to ventilate, and do not operate light switches, extractor fans or anything else that could create a spark. Do not try to trace the leak yourself. Once the area is ventilated and the supply is closed, call for a technician.
